Personal profile
Research interests
As a dedicated researcher and academic in the field of Food Safety and One Health Microbiology, I am driven by the potential of applied veterinary scientific research to enhance the health and wellbeing of animals and humans. Since earning my Ph.D. in 2010, I have concentrated on veterinary public health aspects of microbial food safety, antimicrobial resistance, and zoonoses, emphasizing the interconnectedness of human and animal/agricultural ecosystems. With more than 95 Scopus-listed publications and an H-index of 26, I have built a robust network of collaborators spanning Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and Africa. I've secured significant research funding at UAE University, including the prestigious Abu Dhabi Award for Research Excellence, and leading roles in major projects such as the Abu Dhabi Research Institute for Food Security in Arid Land. I've founded state-of-the-art Veterinary Public Health Research hubs at UAE University and Murdoch University in Australia, fostering national and international partnerships. Looking ahead, I aspire to be engaged in applied and collaborative One Health and system thinking research, addressing pressing issues such as sustaining food safety, foodborne antimicrobial resistance, and zoonotic disease management. My future research agenda includes the use of epidemiology, microbial genomic characterization, and risk assessment of foodborne AMR and zoonotic pathogens, aiming to safeguard food chain at the human-animal-environment interface.
