Abstract

A miniaturized Supershape antenna is presented for ultra-wideband (UWB) application. This microstrip-fed antenna is designed on the Isola IS680 AG-348 substrate with a dielectric constant (Er approx 3. 5) and a dielectric loss tangent (tano approx 0.0029) by an appropriate choice of the Superformula parameters. The ground plane is designed on the bottom of the substrate with a slot and diagonal edges for bandwidth enhancement. The resulting antenna has a diameter of about 16.14 mm leading to a 46.75% and 11 % reduction in size when compared with the regular circular patch and a previously designed antenna with a similar configuration respectively. Simulations performed with HFSS and measurement results show that the antenna has a return loss vert S_11(dB)vert greater than 10dB across the FCC designated band.
