Abstract
In deregulated power systems, voltage sag, harmonics, and rapid energy interruptions are the most important reasons for power quality disturbances. The basic concept of the Premium Power Park (PPP) is to improve the power quality level compared with the standard configuration offered by the utility. This paper presents a novel configuration of PPP to mitigate voltage power quality disturbances using a combination of custom power devices and spot network configuration. Furthermore, an administrative power quality control strategy is presented to coordinate the combined custom power devices in close electrical proximity and to ensure maximum effectiveness of the proposed scheme on power quality improvement. System responses to different power disturbances are simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK software program to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show that the proposed PPP configuration is effective in improving power quality and in providing different levels of power quality for conventional, sensitive, and critical customers.
