Abstract

Fibers have been used as reinforcement in composites leading to the development of advanced composite materials. They have received increasing attention because of their good mechanical, thermal and chemical properties compared to that of traditional structural materials. More specifically, the green efforts and directives towards sustainability, have encouraged recycling efforts and incorporation of natural constituents which are seen to increase over the past decade. Different research articles have suggested multiple methods of mixing the fibers with the matrix (thermoset or thermoplastic) such as extrusion and sample fabrication techniques ranging from compression to injection molding. In addition, the mechanical properties of the composites fabricated are also discussed. This article discuss the usage of various natural fibers, recycling and fabrication processes. Furthermore, the physical and mechanical properties of the developed composite were discussed.
