The academic course planning at the Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering (ECE), United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), is an important imperative to make certain that students accomplish the bachelor’s degree requirements of the university in a structured way, without facing any redundant delays. Although the university has a tailored registration system from Banner as well as a well-defined course planning system called DegreeWorks however, the course ‘advising and planning’ performed at the faculty and students’ level is often short of the required proficiency, aptitude, and skills. Students have encountered problems due to a paucity of a proper advising system as well as an insufficiency of seeking suitable advice. In this paper, a Smart Course Planning System (SCPS) is developed to help students prepare needed study plans. The devised system will allow students in selecting the most suitable courses for the next offering semester. The students can also review the selected courses in a 2-D grid for better time management.
