Abstract

This paper presents the formulation of a system for incident detection in urban traffic networks. The system uses cumulative detector readings from three detectors along the upstream approaches of intersections to identify incidents along various approach sections. A system prototype was developed and tested in a simulation environment under various incident scenarios. Results on the effectiveness of the proposed system to detect incidents causing different blockage conditions are presented.
