The analysis of mini short tandem repeats (miniSTRs) is useful in various contexts of forensic DNA analysis. Main application is the identification of DNA profiles from degraded DNA samples. In the present study, previously identified autosomal miniSTR markers were incorporated in single multiplex assay in order to evaluate the use of such markers in forensic casework samples. Six autosomal miniSTR markers comprise of D12ATA63, D17S974, D9S2157, D2S1776, D10S1435 and D3S4529 were chosen based on previous performance study in addition to the FGA and amelogenine markers. Sensitivity of the assay was tested down to 31.25 pg of DNA. Allele's frequencies were established using 301 samples randomly collected from United Arab Emirates Arab population. Forensic parameters were calculated using Arlequin v3.5 software.
