abstract = "This paper deals with the nonlinear finite element analysis of the load−deformation behaviour of reinforced concrete beams and slabs strengthened with externally bonded fibre reinforced polymers (FRPs). The particular focus is on the implementation of appropriate constitutive models for the FRP/concrete interface that are capable of properly simulating interfacial stresses and strains, as well as characterizing possible debonding failures. Various applications are considered including the flexural and shear strengthening of beams and slabs. The proposed numerical models are validated against experimental data. The numerical analyses are shown to provide useful insight into phenomena that are virtually impossible to observe experimentally.",
