Abstract

In accordance with a recent climate change report by IPCC, temperatures in UAE will rise and harsh weather will occur more often, increasing the time spent in the buildings. The Study of buildings' indoor environments is important due to the fact that people spend more than 90% of their time in buildings, which increases the likelihood of exposure to unhealthy environments as well as some physical and psychological problems such as sick building syndrome. As evidenced by previous studies, the indoor environment of a building has a significant impact on the productivity of a user's work. furthermore, occupants working in a comfortable indoor environment will reduce the rate of absenteeism and incidental costs such as medical expenses, improve work efficiency, and productivity. The study will conduct an indoor environmental quality assessment of UAE University's building. Based on the assessment, it will prepare strategies to improve indoor environment quality for case study building to reduce the occupants' discomfort and to improve the occupants' work productivity. To perform the study, one lecture building is selected. To determine the level of indoor environmental quality of case study, POE study as occupancy survey, monitoring study by using data loggers will carry for selected classrooms, and the level of indoor environmental quality will be analyzed based on standards. It will provide an overview of IEQ level in the case study building, and the problems of the case study building based on POE and monitoring study. The research findings will be discussed in this paper in detail. The following step for this research will be simulation using DesignBuilder software to find more gaps in the building and see the difference before and after adding the suggested changes.
