Abstract
In the dynamic landscape of animal husbandry, the judicious use of antimicrobials has emerged as a critical facet influencing not only the well-being of livestock but also the broader realms of food safety and public health. Exploring antimicrobial strategies in animal husbandry unveils a dynamic One Health concern. The delicate balance between enhancing animal health and mitigating the risks of antimicrobial resistance demands careful consideration. The escalating concern over antimicrobial resistance necessitates a comprehensive examination of strategies deployed in animal husbandry. This chapter seeks to provide a panoramic view of the multifaceted dimensions of antimicrobial efforts in this context. In this chapter, we aim to explore the current status of antimicrobial use in animal husbandry, dissecting global patterns and prevalent practices across various livestock systems. Then, the chapter will scrutinize the driving forces and challenges associated with antimicrobial use, presenting alternatives to conventional methods.
