Applications of artificial intelligence use in therapeutic interventions: A multidisciplinary approach

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Mental health care faces challenges such as limited access, stigma, and resource shortages. Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers solutions such as early diagnosis, personalized therapies, through virtual platforms, and machine- learning database. AI allows improvement of therapeutic outcomes and shows potential for reducing disparities worldwide. Applications like chatbots and health apps can enhance support through real- time engagement and data- driven insights. In hybrid care models, AI can assist therapists and patients by providing valuable data insights, support decision making, and provide personalized care and accurate real- time feedback. However, concerns about the lack of human interaction, trust, and empathy persist. Ethical concerns around privacy, consent, and bias must be addressed. Regulatory frameworks, such as the EU's AI Act, aim to ensure safe and ethical AI use. For successful integration, ongoing research, funding, professional training, and interdisciplinary collaboration are essential.
