Abstract

The chapter examines the online experiences of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), focusing on their unique vulnerabilities to internet- related risks. It explores common online threats faced by autistic children and investigates the crucial role of parental mediation in ensuring the online safety of children with ASD, discussing mediation strategies and their effectiveness. Finally, the chapter addresses the importance of raising awareness about online safety for autistic children and promoting inclusive online communities. Throughout, the chapter synthesizes relevant literature to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in supporting safe and positive online experiences for children with ASD. The chapter aims to inform parents, educators, and policymakers about the specific needs of autistic children in the digital age and highlight effective strategies for support and intervention.
