Abstract

Camelpox viruses isolated in the Sudan were found to have the characteristic properties of the virus. They showed a wide cell culture spectrum and a narrow host spectrum. They grew readily on the chorioallantoic membrane of chicken embryonated eggs producing distinct pock lesions with a ceiling temperature of 39°C. A representative virus isolate was found to be thermolabile and sensitive to both ether and chloroform.
