Abstract

Various recent publications on the evaluation of the Voigt function generally suffer major mathematical and computational flaws. It is important to draw attention to these flaws, particularly as they engendered physically incorrect results that strongly contradict the basic knowledge and acquaintance of the spectral line profile. We comment here on a computational error in the evaluation of the Voigt function, which led to physically incorrect results for the Voigt line profile [Asfaw A. A fast method of modeling spectral lines. JQSRT 2001;70:129-137].
