Abstract

This paper presents a compact low-profile elliptical planner antenna for UWB applications. The antenna is fabricated using Rogers 5880 LZ substrate, conducting patch, and conducting ground plane. The antenna size is 41.95mm×21.2 mm×1.27mm. The operating bandwidth of the designed antenna is from 2.5-10.5 GHz, which make the antenna useful for UWB applications. The length of the ground plane is selected to be 10 mm as predicted in the simulation results. HFSs simulation software is used to obtain the antenna return loss S11 and antenna gain pattern. To validate the proposed antenna design concept, a prototype is fabricated and measured. Experimental results obtained show excellent agreement with the simulation results from HFSS, and both achieved the desired bandwidth.
