Abstract

This paper reports the results of conceptual design of sounding rocket, based on laboratory-scale rocket propulsion technologies. 2,500 N class hydrogen peroxide/polyethylene hybrid propulsion system and 250 N class hydrogen peroxide monopropellant thruster were used for main propulsion and attitude control operations, respectively. The attitude control of the sounding rocket was simulated using developed 6 degree of freedom code and feasibility of the bang-bang attitude control using only one monopropellant thruster for spinning sounding rocket was determined. The attitude control simulation results successfully showed the precession motion of the spinning sounding rocket and practicality of the bang-bang control using one thruster.
