Abstract

The findings of 158 patients with angiographically proven stenoses of the supraaortic vessels were analysed. Disorders of lipid metabolism, coronary atherosclerosis, hypertension, and nicotin abuse were the mostly present pathological clinical data. If these data are present, atherosclerosis of the supraaortic vessels should be suspected. The findings of Doppler ultrasound were false negative in 20%. Thus Doppler ultrasound is a valuable screening method, if stenoses of the supraaortic arteries are suspected. But angiography is still necessary for operation proceeding, and if the ultrasonographic findings are not clear.
