N2 - This article addresses the quality of service provisioning issues in the wireless mesh backbone for broadband wireless access. Differentiated services over the wireless mesh backbone is investigated in the avenues of QoS routing and MAC mechanisms. Challenges and open issues are identified, along with potential solutions and possible research directions.
