    Abstract

To respond to individual learning needs, it is crucial to select instructional information and to systematise knowledge construction processes. We discuss the gradual development of context-sensitive technologies to meet the requirements of ambient learning environments. In so doing, we develop a framework of a learning continuum to assist learners immersed in ambient learning environments. We introduce the concept of design learning patterns to fit various contextual profiles involved in the continuum framework. Learning structures are abstracted into learning provision factories composed of design, process, context and validation modules. We study the synergistic relationships between these factories to support the proposed learning continuum.
