Abstract

This paper presents a new technique that can be implemented for monitoring multi-Owner electric distribution system. A Windowed Wavelet transform and local maxima of the expansion coefficients are proposed to design the proposed tool. The proposed tool allows increasing the maximum wavelet-decomposition-level assigned for each wavelet and hence extracting simultaneously high and low frequency disturbances. The paper presents a simulated case using PSCAD where a surge injected in a distribution system can be monitored, defined its location as well as its feature at other locations in a system operates by different utilities.
