Abstract

The goals of this survey include the discussion of the common methods used in developing models for nonlinear systems and the presentation of the common dynamic analysis techniques used by researchers and engineers. The present paper also emphasizes the Lyapunov approach as a very general time-domain tool that can be used for stability studies of nonlinear systems. Although the Lyapunov method is originally a method of stability analysis, we will discuss in this paper recent advances of applying the Lyapunov approach to other problems of nonlinear systems such as the design of nonlinear controllers, overhead cranes automation and recursively identifying the parameters of nonlinear systems.
