Abstract

Supercapacitors (SCs) are paramount for developing next-generation autonomously powered devices owing to their unique features such as exceptional performance, fast charging, high specific power, and high safety, ease of synthesis and operation, and long lifespan. However, the performance of SCs is based on the electrode materials used. In this regard, polymer-based metal sulfides (MS) have been intensively investigated for a comprehensive outlook in relation to their optimization to yield higher performance. A novel and crucial literature survey has been accomplished to provide detailed mechanisms of operation and insights to assist with the selection and employment of suitable Polymer MSs depending on their end-use. Furthermore, the challenges and prospects of polymer MS are furnished. This review article will serve as an exhaustive reference for researchers and engineers in the field of SCs.
