Abstract

Exosomes might provide additional important advantages as compared to artificial lipid layers as a capping system. They are endogenous liposomes present in many body liquids. They supposedly are nonimmunogenic and are used by cells for communication purposes. They combine the advantages of a lipid bilayer with a potential shielding from the immune system and, unlike artificial lipid bilayers, they have a not yet understood endogenous mechanism that supports release from the endosomal entrapment.
