Abstract

This paper presents a fuzzy logic controlled shunt active power filter used to compensate harmonic distortion and increase power factor to produce a high power quality in three-phase systems, using MATLAB and its tools Simulink and Power System Blockset. Fuzzy logic (FL) and optimized fuzzy logic with Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA-FL) was used to control shunt active power filter. The results show that the injected harmonics are essentially reduced; system efficiency and power factor are improved by two different controllers. When the implemented methods were compared, GSA-FL controller showed better performance in reducing THD and reactive power and robustness for DC capacitor voltage.
