Identification of the natural frequencies and modal dampings of a flexible rotor journal bearing system is considered in this paper and a real-time modal sweeping scheme which identifies the unknown parameters on-line is proposed. The identification is carried out by using a single excitation and a single response record. This simplifies considerably the measurement and instrumentation requirements for experimental work.
