Abstract
A simple empirical correlation is proposed to predict the volume translation parameter of heptane-plus fraction. This correlation significantly improves the prediction of density by Peng-Robinson equation of state for several offshore UAE crudes. The parameters in the heptane-plus characterization procedure employed are calculated directly from molecular weight and specific gravity data measured for the hydrocarbon fractions. Agreement between results from the volume translated equation of state model and those from experiments for density tests is quite acceptable. The new correlation, which was tested on 418 data points, gives an average absolute percentage deviation of 1.8%, in calculated density.
