Abstract

Recently, research on wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has received a lot of attention because they offer an advantage of monitoring various kind of environment. The management of sensors' energy is a very important problem in wireless sensor network. Research has shown a significant contribution to increase the network lifetime and improve its performance is due to energy conservation. The goal of this work is to propose and study a hierarchical protocol with mobile sink which is based on the protocol LEACH-C, in order to have a balanced energy consumption. The proposed protocol uses an unsupervised classification algorithm K-means for cluster formation and a mobile base station for data collection. Several experiments were carried out; the simulation results show a significant reduction in energy consumption of the network and an increase in the amount of data received by the base station.
