Abstract

Equipment of water works for different reasons must have internal and external coatings. Products for coatings are often used on the basis of organic polymer substances. In some selected examples is shown that the evaporating solvents produce a colony increase in the water and taste as well as odour impairments. The water must not necessarily come into direct contact with the coating. The solvents may even come into the water by the air. These incidences can be excluded by a sufficient final treatment of the coatings. During the coating works and in the first time afterwards the solvent charged air must not come into contact with the free water surface in reservoirs, open filter tanks and aeration plants. The solvents must evaporate sufficiently from coatings which come into direct contact with the water. The testing and review of materials by laboratory tests (KTW-Empfehlungen and DVGW-Arbeitsblatt W 270) may not exclude incidences when the materials are not handled in a proper way.
