Abstract

Detailed investigations of the inelastic scattering of positrons by lithium and sodium atoms are presented. The targets are described using the Clementi-Roetti wavefunctions within the framework of the one-valence-electron model. The partial cross sections for eight values of the total angular momentum I, (corresponding to 0<or=l<or=7) are calculated at 25 values of the incident energy k12 (0.1<or=k1 2<or=1000 eV) using the coupled-static approximation. The resulting total elastic and positronium formation cross sections are compared with those determined by other authors.
