Abstract

The influence on setting times of pastes made with microsilica and set-retarding superplasticisers at various ambient temperatures was investigated. Nine different pastes were designed to demonstrate the sole effect of different levels of microsilica and the combined effect of microsilica and set retarding superplasticisers at four temperatures; 20°, 30°, 40°, and 5 0 dotC. The results indicated that the inclusion of microsilica reduces consistency and retards setting at all temperatures. The set-retarding admixture was capable of retarding setting at 20°C but its efficiency was significantly hindered by the high ambient temperatures.
