Like many countries around the world, Jordan faced a new reality after the spread of COV-ID-19 in 2020. One of the primary reactions Jordan has taken is to restrict food exports. This article highlights the position of the food sector in the Jordanian economy and offers analyses on food export restrictions in light of the WTO rules. Restricting food exports harms the exporting country and the importing countries simultaneously. Accordingly, any measures restricting food exports must be taken only in unusually exceptional cases and to the narrow-est degree possible. This article concludes that food security and economic security, for a de-veloping country like Jordan, should only be compatible interests and not conflicting ones.
