Abstract

A method is presented to determine the growth rate of bacteria in laboratory scale. The parameters for the increases of biomass during the test are turbidity at 12 degree foreward scattering and total cell number, determined in the microscope. This microbiological test is able to predict regrowth in drinking water. Moreover the results can be used to optimize drinking water treatment in the water treatment, which helps to minimize the disinfection measures. The principles of the test method are described and the results give evidence of the practical importance of this test.
