Abstract

(Figure Presented) Partial fluorolysis of magnesium alkoxide with HF leads to an unexpected crystalline magnesium alkoxide fluoride intermediate. The hexanuclear, cationic dicubane unit is bridged by unusual μ4-F atoms and hydrogen-bonded to two methoxide anions, resulting in a triple-ionic structure (see picture, F green, Mg blue, O red, C gray, H black).
