abstract = "The explosive growth of IP based networks has placed the focus on the scalability of the Interior Gateway Protocols such as OSPF. Many current ISP networks are designed as a single large OSPF area and approaching their design limitations. This paper focuses on certain network design considerations that apply generically to Multi-area OSPF. Certain testing methodologies of Multi-area OSPF are also addressed to emphasize the importance of a network topology as it relates to network reliability. This paper shows how the proper and careful design of a network is the key in reducing the occurrence of any pitfalls and therefore, achieving network stability.",
