Abstract

Migrating phone systems from legacy circuit switching to IP telephony using the Internet Protocol (IP) technology is a new trend among many institutions and organizations. IP telephony is still considered a young technology and must overcome many challenges. One of the most basic challenges is weather the quality of applications over IP telephony will be compatible with the quality obtained traditionally. In this paper, migration to IP telephony strategies are investigated and recommendations are suggested taking into consideration the benefits, drawbacks, and requirements of each migration path.
