Abstract
The nonlinear coupling of three scissors modes of an anisotropic Bose-Einstein condensate was investigated. Variational calculations were performed using a gaussian trial wave function. Analytical results describing the oscillation and resonance behavior of the two coupled modes were obtained. The two modes were found to be resonantly coupled and a down-conversion could occur when the frequency of one of the scissors modes was twice the frequency of another scissors mode.
