P26: Modeling the Subsurface Structure of the Al-Ain Region Using Potential Field Data

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

The surface geology of the Jabal Hafeet region near Al-Ain (Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates) is represented mainly by the NNW folded Tertiary carbonate rocks. The subsurface was investigated using gravity and magnetic methods, which reveal a recognizable density and magnetic susceptibility variations on large and small scales. Gravity maps show areas of east Jabal Hafeet are underlain by deep thrust complex of denser Hawasina sediments and lavas. Similar model can explain the magnetic maps of the same area. Some irregularities in density and magnetic are present on the western part near Jabal Hafeet axis. These may be related to ramp antiform structure overlying the thrust complexes.
