Abstract

This study investigates issues related to integration of learning technologies with architectural systems in contemporary learning environments. This is done in response to current pedagogical practices and variable teaching-learning dynamics taking place in such spaces. The study is qualitative in nature, and concludes sets of integrated design patterns for learning technologies with the envelope and the interior systems in such spaces as they pertain to occupants' performance. The research sample included twenty five learning environments in four Governor's Schools in Virginia, U.S.A. The findings are translated in the form of design patterns, which offer a graphical language to be shared by designers, facility planners, and community stakeholders during the early phases of the design process of the educational facility, and during planning for the integration of learning technologies.
