Abstract
Biofuel-based materials derived from renewable plant resources have emerged as a promising alternative. The present chapter investigates the different applications of carbon-based materials from biomass in the fields of supercapacitors and sustainable construction materials. The industry is moving toward sustainable practices using resources such as wood pulp and vegetable oil. Despite its historical use, recent attention is being paid to the potential of these materials as replacements for products derived from fossil fuels. Plant biomass structures and fundamental components are essential in determining the potential of energy and resistance to conversion to biofuels. From forest and grassland to wetlands and human-managed plantations, different plant sources play a unique role in the overall ecosystem of plant biomass. From pyrolysis to gasification and production of biochar, bio-oil and biogas highlight their energy efficiency and environmental impact. The future of low carbon is discussed regarding biodiesel fuel and bioethanol, considering the use of land to produce biofuels, and emphasizing the need for sustainable alternatives. Carbon materials from paper bags, rice, orange peel, mixed biomass, and so on, have unique properties crucial to supercapacitors' performance to make supercapacitor electrodes. The focus is on the importance of selecting appropriate biomass precursors and demonstrating the impact of biomass on material properties. Finally, the chapter highlights the transformative potential of plant biomass in the development of nanotechnology applications.
