Abstract
We propose a new structure, namely Mg2BC3, which consists of BC3 honeycomb layers intercalated with magnesium atoms. Energy minization is obtained for a relatively large distance between the BC3 layers (c = 0.53 nm). Band structure calculations show an unusually large metallic density of states at the Fermi level, much higher than that in MgB2. The similarity of the proposed layered Mg2BC3 structure to that of MgB2 suggests that Mg2BC3 may be a superconductor with a relatively high temperature.
