Abstract

The absorption spectra of the solvated electron in the range 380-800 nm have been investigated in neat silicone oils and 1-butanol-silicone oil mixtures. Spectra were observed only in mixtures of greater than 30% butanol. Specific rates of the solvated electron reacting with phenanthrene in 30% 1-butanol mixtures with silicone oils of different viscosities were the same.
