Abstract

This chapter investigates the role of Sudanese cinema in driving socio-political change within the country. It assesses the contributions of both pioneering and contemporary filmmakers, analyzing their thematic choices and strategies for navigating Sudan's complex socio-political landscape, despite resource limitations. Sudanese filmmakers have effectively produced films that capture social mobilization, sparking significant societal transformations. Cinema serves as a platform for marginalized voices, facilitating discussions on social inequality, cultural heritage, and political challenges. The chapter also explores cinema's significance within the Global South context, challenging colonial legacies and cultural stereotypes. It underscores Sudanese cinema's potential to drive societal change and forge a unified national identity. The growing international recognition of Sudanese cinema fosters cultural exchange and a deeper understanding of Sudan's diverse culture. In essence, cinema plays a pivotal role in shaping an inclusive national identity, promoting dialogue, and enhancing cultural understanding.
