Abstract

The physical, chemical and mineralogical characteristics of local clay (Sarooj) have been investigated. These included clay preparation for testing, analysis for chemical composition, physical property measurements, pore size distribution, specific surface area, microscopic structure, and others. Three forms of the Sarooj clay have been prepared and tested, namely, washed clay, chemically treated clay, and thermally + chemically treated clay. The clay was then used in adsorption tests to remove Zn, Cd, and Pb ions from water. Among the parameters studied are the adsorption isotherms, solution pH, adsorption contact time, and the pre-conditioning and treatment of the clay.
