Abstract

Using the transfer matrix method we have studied the effect of the temperature on the appearance, the width, and the location of the photonic band gap (PBG) for the air cylinders embedded in a slab of vinyl chloride polymer. For two different lattice parameters we have found that the behaviour of this polymer with respect to the temperature in the visible region is strongly different from that of the far-infrared region. Furthermore, results of comparison in the far-infrared region with the PBG material which is constructed with methylpentene polymer are reported.
