Abstract
The pancreatic polypeptide response to both caerulein and Boots' secretin was greatly obtuned by prior administration of atropine. In addition basal plasma PP concentration fell by 54 ± 7% (mean ± SEM p < 0.001) 30 minutes after atropinisation. Some degree of cholinergic tone thus appears essential both for maintaining basal PP levels and for the response to gut hormones.
