Abstract

This paper reports an effective method for controlling droplet size in microchannels. The droplet formation process can be controlled precisely using integrated heater and temperature sensor. With a relatively low temperature range from 25°C to 45°C, droplet diameter can be adjusted up to 2.24 times of its original size. That means a droplet volume up to five times of the original value can be adjusted. The low temperature range makes sure that this concept is applicable for droplets containing biological samples.
