Tourism Sustainability at Davos and COP28

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Sustainability represents a major concern to the tourism and travel sectors. Both the WEF 2024 Annual Meeting in Davos and COP28 that took place in Dubai during late 2023 were large events where sustainable tourism was discussed, directly or not. Underlying apprehensions relate to carbon emissions and climate change, which not only affect the leisure experience for the end consumer but, in fact, are a problem partly generated by the travel and hospitality industry itself. These insights were comparatively analyzed based on open-source materials and secondary literature on the topic. Even though the two organizations diverge significantly in terms of structure and aims, shared perceptions encompass the notion of stakeholder engagement.
