Abstract

Is built on the results of a case study related to rural-urban and interurban migration trends displayed by native Kazakh individuals regarding decisions to move to recently transferred capital of the Kazakhstan Republic, - the city of Astana. Social and economic motivations for migration were found to dominate not only rural-urban migration decisions but also resettlement from the cities to the capital. Adaptation mechanisms are described stressing employment among a variety of factors. The paper contains also description and an analysis of ethnic identity displayed by the migrants. Hypothesis about ethnicity factor as an adoptive resource of considerable significance is verified.
