N2 - Quality of Web services (QoWS) is among the issues that raise significant interest in Web services research. Indeed, QoWS provision is a critical and significant challenge because of the dynamic nature of business applications and the unpredictable Internet traffic. Delivering end-to-end QoWS is affected by many factors including the performance of Web servers on which Web services are deployed, and the underlying network connecting the clients to the Web services. In this work, we are investigating the issue of the performance of Web services accessed over an IEEE 802.11g network. We have first defined a set of QoWS parameters that are related to Web services and those that are related to the performance of wireless networks. We have then developed a set of simple and composite Web services that we have used in the experiments. We have applied compression scheme of SOAP message together with load balancing technique to improve the QoWS over WLAN. Using different scenarios, we evaluate QoWS of these Web services accessed over a WLAN. The experimental results showed that QoWS in WLAN is considerably improved and in some conditions exceed slightly the performance of LAN.
